Beijing, the Capital of China, reported its highest number of Coronavirus cases in the last eighteen months, five days before the 202 Winter Olympics. After twenty more virus cases were reported in Beijing, officials announced that some local governments locked down areas with residents having positive test results.
Furthermore, organizers of the Olympic Games reported thirty-four new cases within this year’s event. Officials said that it included thirteen officials or athletes arriving at the airport. Anybody testing positive for COVID-19 will face isolation and only be allowed to compete after getting two negative test results in twenty-four hours.

Beijing Winter Olympics are going ahead regardless of travel in and out of China being severely restricted since the deadly pandemic started. In addition, those individuals traveling to Beijing for the games must use charter flights and stay in their bubble until they leave. Before and after arriving in China, travelers should need to clear Coronavirus tests, with tens of thousands inside the bubble also experiencing daily virus testing other than expected to wear face masks.
Several People in China will Face COVID-related Testing
On Sunday, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) reported twenty new Coronavirus cases in Beijing – the highest since June 2020. AFP news agency reported that local officials locked down housing compounds in the Fengtai district – where several of the new cases were reported. Around two million individuals will face testing for the virus in response.
