Biden agrees for law enforcement to be charged over Blake and Taylor shootings

Democratic presidential nominee who would challenge Mr. Trump in November’s election has pressed the police to charge their pals who shot black Americans Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor. Speaking in Delaware, the former VP did not specify what counts should be included in the both cases which have stoked demonstrations for racial justice across America. The Democrat made the remarks after finishing a record fundraising drive in August. He also holds a narrow lead over Republican President in the opinion polls as the elections near.

In a news conference from his hometown of Wilmington on Wednesday, Biden was questioned whether he agreed with the Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris that the officers in the Blake and Taylor cases should be convicted.

“I think we should let the judicial system work its way,” he said. “I do think at a minimum, they need to be charged, the officers.”

Jacob Blake, 29 was shot 7 times in the back during a confrontation with the police in Kenosha, WI on Aug 23, 2020. The black American, now parlayed from the waist down is a recent victim of the police brutality in the country. Earlier on March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, 26 was fatally shot in her home during a drug raid in Louisville, Kentucky.

One of the officers involved in the incident is losing his job while two others have been placed on administrative leave during the judicial investigation of the shootings. Biden also mentioned the gunman identified in US media as a member of antifa, a far-left group who fatally shot a Republican supporter on streets of Portland, Oregon, last weekend.

Trump’s Democratic challenger barely hold himself from calling for charges in that case, but said: “They should be investigated and it should follow through on what needs to be done. Let the judicial system work. Let’s make sure justice is done.”

Active on other fronts, Biden demanded the safety of students as the states get ready to open their schools amid COVID-19 pandemic. His comments came a day before visiting Kenosha in Wisconsin, where he says he wants to contribute in the healing of the state hit by strong social unrest in the recent days.

Following the shooting by law enforcement, the Democrat received overwhelming number of requests to come to the city which has turned into a latest flashpoint of racial discrimination issue rooted deep in the country. The presidential runner will be expected to meet Blake’s father and other family members as he attempts to console the victims.

Trump during his visit could not meet the family when he traveled to Kenosha on Tuesday, clearing he decided to drop the visit because the family had plans to attend the lawyers. Biden has scheduled the visits of Wisconsin and its wrecked neighborhoods 4 years after Hillary Clinton neglected the Midwestern state to clear Mr. Trump’s path.
