President Biden Condemned Trump on January 6 Anniversary Speech

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, spoke from the Capitol on the first anniversary of the January 6 riot and criticized the former U.S. President Donald Trump as a threat to democracy. He said that one year today, rioters attacked the democracy in this sacred place on this day.

The president forcefully blamed the former Republican president and his supporters for holding a dagger at the throat of democracy with 2020 election deceits. Biden warned that the government system of America remains under urgent threat. Furthermore, Remembrance Day brought fiery speeches, anguished accounts, and moments of silence from representatives recalling the horrifying hours of January 6, 2021, when the former president mob laid siege to the U.S. Capitol and tried to stop the ceremonial certification of 2020 election results.

Almost no GOP leaders joined President Biden and the Democrats in what some hoped a day of settlement. Biden said that for the first time in the United States history, a president lost an election and tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of rule as a violent mob breached the U.S. Capitol. You can not only love your country when you win.

Biden Called for a Voting Rights Legislation

The criticism of the president against the defeated president was rife with a denouncement for the assault that basically changed Congress and the whole country. The riot also raised worldwide concerns about the future of the country’s democracy. Furthermore, Biden said that Trump’s supporters are trying to rewrite history as they want you to see Election Day as the day of riot and insurrection at Capitol on January 6.

The president called for voting rights legislation that the Democratic party has long urged in a Thursday message. His remarks drew a direct contrast with the wrong narratives that persist about the Capitol assault, including the repeated refusals by several GOP leaders to affirm that Joe Biden won the 2020 Presidential Election. Everyone should be clear about what is true and what is a lie. Further, he said that Trump spread a web of lies about the 2020 Presidential Election.

One of the few Republican lawmakers attending the Capitol ceremonies and the vice-chair of the House Committee investigating the Capitol attack, Representative Liz Cheney, warned that the threat continues. She added that the former president continues to make the same claims that he knows triggered aggression on January 6. Cheney told “Today” show of NBC that, unfortunately, several lawmakers in her own party are embracing Trump, are minimizing the danger, or looking the other way. That is how democracies die.

Democracy is Under Risk

The House panel probing the January 6 violence plans to spend the coming months exploring and revealing what happened with public hearings. Biden and his government come under condemnation from some in his party for not effectively explaining how they believe democracy is at risk or backing Congress hard enough to approve election & voting rights legislation stalled by GOP filibusters in the Senate.

The recent poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed that three in ten GOP leaders say the attack was not violent. On the other hand, about two-thirds of Americans described the day as extremely violent, including nine in ten Democrats. In addition, the percentage of American nationals who blame former president Trump for the violence has grown slightly over the previous year, with fifty-seven percent saying he bears major responsibility, up from fifty percent in the days after the attack.

The courts rejected claims of the former president regarding widespread election fraud, and even his own Justice Department refuted those claims. Moreover, the Associated Press conducted an investigation that found less than four hundred and seventy-five ballot fraud cases among around 25.5 million votes cast in the six battlefield states disputed by the former Republican president, a small number in percentage terms.
