Boosters Increases Vaccine Efficacy up to 75% against Omicron – UK Study

Covid-19 booster doses delivered 71 to 75 percent protection against getting mild coronavirus symptoms from the omicron strain

Boosters Shots Increases Vaccine Efficacy up to 75% against Omicron

According to the latest research at the United Kingdom, Health Security Agency released on Friday, coronavirus booster doses delivered seventy-one percent to seventy-five percent protection against getting mild virus symptoms from the deadly Omicron variant. The study further said that among those who received two shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine, a Pfizer-BioNTech additional dose increased vaccine efficacy against the Omicron variant to 71.4 percent two weeks after it received. Those statistics were 75.5 percent for individuals whose initial doses were the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Two shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine followed by the Pfizer-BioNTech booster shot gave 92.6 percent protection against the previously detected highly contagious delta variant, while two shots of the AstraZeneca dose followed by the Pfizer booster shots generated 93.8 percent protection. Moreover, the study analyzed about five hundred and eight new Omicron cases and almost fifty-six thousand and five hundred delta cases. The study suggests that there was not enough information to assess the vaccine efficiency of Moderna vaccines.

The health agency forecast the Omicron variant would bring up over half of all coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom by mid-December, adding that coronavirus cases there could exceed over one million cases by the month-end at this pace of infection. According to BBC News, the agency’s head of immunization, Mary Ramsay, said that these initial evaluations should treat with caution. But they specify that some months after the second dose, there is a higher risk of contracting with the Omicron variant compared to the Delta variant.

Omicron Looks to have Higher Transmissibility

Earlier this week. Boris Johnson, the United Kingdom, said that Omicron seems to have greater transmissibility and mild symptoms of the virus compared to other coronavirus strains based on initial statistics. Furthermore, the United Kingdom was one of the powerful richest nations to detect the Omicron earlier month. It quickly moved to restrict air travel internationally and introduced face mask mandates on public transportation to combat the spread of the heavily altered variant. According to the New York Times, the U.K. could be a testing ground for the Omicron variant.
