Trump’s oldest son Donald Trump Jr., 42 has tested positive for COVID-19, according to his spokesman. He was diagnosed at the start of this week and has since then quarantined himself in his hunting cabin.
“He’s been completely asymptomatic so far and is following all medically recommended Covid-19 guidelines,” according to the statement by his spokesman. Don Jr. is the second of the Republican’s children to contract corona. Earlier, last month, Barron Trump, 14 also caught the virus but recorded a quick recovery. A flamboyant speaker, Don Jr., campaigned regularly for his father going into the November’s elections for White House.
It is also speculated that Don Jr., following the footsteps of his dad is interested in running for the WH, a claim he has not tried to play down. His girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host also caught the disease in July 2020 before making a recovery.
Earlier on Friday, Andrew Giuliani, a special assistant to President Trump revealed he had contracted the infection. Giuliani, the son of the president’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani in his tweet said he was experiencing mild symptoms after receiving his test report on Friday morning.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. I am experiencing mild symptoms, and am following all appropriate protocols, including being in quarantine and conducting contact tracing”.
CBS News has confirmed that at least four other WH staffers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Earlier this month, WH chief of staff Mark Meadows was among several White House aides who caught the virus. Trump himself spent three nights at Walter Reed medical center in the beginning of October during his bout with the infection. First Lady Melania Trump also tested positive for the COVID-19.
Last month, Don Jr was criticized for tamping down the higher fatality rates in United States because of corona. In an interview with conservative media outlet Fox News, he argued that the media was highlighting the caseload while intentionally ignoring the death toll.
He said: “I was like, ‘Well, why aren’t they talking about deaths?’ Oh, oh, because the number is almost nothing. Because we’ve gotten control of this, and we understand how it works.”
The virus has infected a 11.8mn Americans and killed over 253,000. The caseload is still soaring in different states projecting more bleak markers in future. Friday recoded a single day caseload of 192,000 confirmed new cases in the country according to COVID Tracking Project.
