On Sunday, James Michael Tyler, the famous star of ‘Friends’ who played the role of coffee shop manager in the TV sitcom, died at his home at fifty-nine, according to a statement from his manager, Toni Benson. His statement further read, the whole world knew him as Gunther (the 7th friend) from the most famous season Fiends, but his loved ones knew him as an actor, cancer-awareness advocate, musician, and loving husband.

Michael was battling prostate cancer, and his doctors diagnosed the disease in 2018. Benson said in his statement that Michael loved cheering on his Clemson Tigers, live music and would usually find himself in unplanned and fun adventures. He was well-known for playing the role of Gunther and Rachel’s admirer on the iconic 90s television show for ten seasons, but he was also in several other titles, including Scrubs, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Modern Music.

They also shared their thoughts with the deceased family, colleagues, friends, and fans. Michael initially revealed his disease of battling Stage four prostate cancer in June when he talked about the Today Show of NBC News. Moreover, he added that doctors diagnosed his illness during a routine physical checkup when he was fifty-six.

Cancer penetrated his bones and left him unable to walk, and he was using a wheelchair to move into his home. The doctors were treating him with hormone therapy, but they never succeeded in recovering him. Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men in the U.S., according to the Mayo Clinic. In addition, some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need normal or even no treatment; others are deadly and can spread quickly.
