On Tuesday, House Democrats and Republicans advanced a major financial overhaul of suffered American Postal Service, reducing tens of billions of dollars in liabilities that prevented it from updating and delivering efficient service. Moreover, the passed bill marked a key breakthrough for the postal agency and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. DeJoy made the bill the flagship of his ten-year postal reform plan.
The agency appealed to Congress to help fix its balance sheet for around fifteen years. Additionally, the agency leaders are warily hopeful about prospects for the approval of the Postal Service Reform Act in the Senate. The agency has twenty-seven co-sponsors in the upper chamber, including fourteen GOP leaders, which marks enough support to defeat a possible filibuster.

The legislation now heads to the Senate, where Majority Leader Chuck Schumer pledged to take up the long-wanted bill before the next week’s end. Schumer stated that with a sweeping bipartisan vote in the House, he intended for a bipartisan passage from the Senate.
Democratic leaders welcomed the bill as essential to the protection of the Postal Service and its ability to reach approximately every U.S. household six days per week. On the other hand, GOP leaders say the legislation supports the initiatives of DeJoy and a conservative approach for a minor postal service.

The Bill will Save Taxpayers Money
The United States House Committee on Oversight and Reform, Representative Carolyn B. Maloney, told the Washington Post that they need to take significant steps to strengthen the postal agency. In addition, the recent bill helps the post office in every way and will save money for taxpayers. At the same time, it will make the operations of the agency more sustainable and stable financially. Additionally, it will create more postal jobs and secure the health benefits of employees.
