Johnson N Johnson Booster Dose Possibly will be Necessary

Dr. Vivek Murthy, the United States Surgeon General said that Americans who received Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine doses are expected to need a booster shot

On Sunday, United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said that American nationals who received Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine are expected to need a booster dose. On the other hand, the government is still waiting to issue an approval until it receives more information, including statistics on whether the Johnson & Johnson shot might mix with the second shot of a different vaccine.

Murthy said that federal health officials believe those recipients will possibly need a booster. Before it makes an approval to say if a J&J booster dose is safe, the administration is waiting on some statistics from the company about the 2nd dose so the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can thoroughly evaluate the efficacy and safety of that dose.

Murthy said that the government also has research in progress and will present it to the FDA, where they have one sort of vaccine followed by another kind of vaccine, which would include Johnson & Johnson followed by Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. Then, after having detailed information, the federal administration can issue approvals, including when J&J recipients should receive any likely booster dose and which vaccine is the best to take.

Murthy said earlier this week that they are expecting additional statistics on J&J booster vaccine shots in the coming weeks. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 13.9 million Americans received full vaccination against coronavirus with the J&J vaccine as of Sunday, as compared with 91.7 million Americans who received vaccination shots of Pfizer/BioNTech and 64.7 million people received Moderna vaccine shots.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Also Suggested Booster Shots of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S. top infectious disease expert, said that it is likely necessary for Americans who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will also receive a booster shot. Further, he added that they would inform the public after collecting more data in the coming few weeks.

What are the guidelines of the federal government about booster shots of Moderna and Pfizer?

This week, the government announced at the national level that Americans who received Moderna Pfizer vaccines should take a booster shot of the vaccine. On the other hand, it didn’t issue any guidelines at that time for the receivers of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. As a result, statistics for the J&J vaccine is on a later timeline compared with other vaccine doses after the one-dose vaccine was only permitted for use in late February and rolled out beginning in March, while Moderna and Pfizer received government recommendations in December.

The recommendation for booster doses comes amid concerns that coronavirus vaccines will diminish in effectiveness as time goes on and as the vaccines revealed slightly lessened efficacy in the face of the COVID-19 delta variant, though they still remain heavily defensive against death and hospitalization. In addition, a recent study at the New York University recommended the J&J dose is possibly far less effective to combat delta variant infections than previous variants of the virus.

Furthermore, the World Health Organization condemned the countries which are administering booster vaccine doses while much of the low-income countries still don’t have access to a suitable stock of coronavirus vaccines for even initial shots, both to fight vaccine inequity and shield against the possibility that yet more dangerous strains of the COVID-19 could emerge as a result. On ABC News Sunday, Murthy approved the United States’ booster campaign would take away from the rest of the global supply. However, he indicated efforts of the Biden government to donate millions of vaccines to other nations.
