Law firm representing Trump in Pennsylvania leaves campaign case

The law firm, Porter Wright Morris & Arthur representing Trump’s legal battle to deny Biden popular vote in Pennsylvania is just leaving the long-shot attempt to win the case in Trump’s favor. The firm had two Pittsburgh-based lawyers tasked with representing the Republican’s Pennsylvania campaign. Both separated themselves from the case in an overnight filing and told the judge that Trump campaign my get a new counsel for representation.

Trump now has left with one lawyer Linda Ann Kerns to plead his case as a solo practitioner in federal court of Pennsylvania. The President-elect Biden is now leading the Republican by 60,000 votes in the state and is widely projected to take 20 electoral votes offered by the state.

Porter Wright is a medium-size Midwestern law firm specializing primarily in corporate law. Its decision to abandon case put by Trump’s campaign hints on the increasing discomfort faced by Republican as he stubbornly continues to attack the electoral process in order to sway the Electoral College vote in his favor.

“Plaintiffs and Porter Wright have reached a mutual agreement that Plaintiffs will be best served if Porter Wright withdraws, and current co-counsel and such other counsel as Plaintiffs may choose to engage represent Plaintiffs in this case. Plaintiffs are in the process of retaining and causing other counsel to enter an appearance herein,” lawyers Ronald Hicks and Carolyn McGee wrote in the Pennsylvania case.

The case has major arguments and a hearing on evidence about voting in next week. Matthew Brann, the judge involved in the hearing rose to the position during the Obama years but is a longtime Republican leader in Pennsylvania. Earlier this week Jones Day, an elite litigation firm having a long-time association with Trump, publicly distanced itself from the cases of fraudulent voting claims.
