Announcing his intentions to run for the GOP nomination for President in the 2024 election after losing to Joe Biden in 2020, the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to seek the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election. Trump, the leader of the “Make America Great Again” movement, announced Tuesday that he would seek a third term. Trump had hinted at running since leaving office in 2021 but has not publicly announced his bid.

In an announcement to a crowd of supporters Tuesday evening, Donald Trump said, “I am running for president to make America great and glorious again.” I am your voice. The establishment in Washington wants to silence Republicans, but we will not allow them to do so. “I am your voice, just as I promised in 2016. It is about our love for this great country, America, and we will not allow it to fail.” Even though it is not about politics, what we have created together over the last six years is one of the greatest movements in history.
Several of Trump’s political allies and supporters were present at the announcement at Mar-a-Lago, the presidential retreat in the southern state of Florida, where he has spent his winters since leaving Washington after his White House tenure ended in January 2017. In addition to his constant political commentary and disparagement of Biden’s administration over the last twenty-two months, Trump is facing some political headwinds as he looks to rejoin the seemingly never-ending U.S. political realm.
Trump Blamed Biden for High Inflation Rate
The Republican presidential candidate has blamed President Biden for the high inflation rate, an unending stream of undocumented migrants crossing Mexico’s southern border, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February if he were the U.S. president. Following Trump’s announcement, Biden tweeted a video containing clips from his predecessor’s presidency, commenting that his predecessor had pursued an economic policy that favored the wealthy, coddled extremists, and suppressed women’s rights. Biden said that Trump had failed the American people.
Along with the political side of Trump, he is also facing several criminal investigations into his conduct during his presidency, which may soon overshadow the campaigning process. A criminal investigation has not been initiated against Donald Trump. However, in an investigation conducted by federal and state prosecutors, it is alleged that he attempted to thwart official congressional certification to undermine Biden’s victory.
During the investigation, it will be determined whether he sought to overturn his defeat in Georgia by asking state election officials to find him enough votes to defeat Biden, as well as whether he caused the riot that took place on January 6, 2018, in which 2,000 Trump supporters attempted to disrupt the final certification of the election at the U.S. Capitol.
The FBI is investigating Trump for allegedly taking hundreds of highly classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago instead of transferring them to the National Archives when he left the White House. First, in the country’s history, the prosecution has not publicly announced a timeline for the investigation or a decision on whether to charge the ex-President with criminal offenses.
Trump-era Policies
Under his “Make America Great Again” and “America First” campaign promises, President Trump has worked to reduce red tape and regulations facing American businesses and workers. Moreover, he has worked to implement policies intended to bring back overseas supply chains. Trump immediately withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership in January 2017 and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which included new protections for American manufacturers and workers, replacing it with the existing U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Trump also signed an executive order mandating that “Buy American and Hire American” be a government policy to prevent outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. During the midterm election cycle, American voters have also been concerned about high energy and record-high gas prices. President Biden reversed some of Trump’s policies and focused on clean energy during his administration, ensuring the United States was the top producer of natural gas and oil worldwide.

Since withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal, the Trump administration has emphasized peace through strength in its foreign policy message. The Biden administration has begun to assist in re-entry into the agreement since taking office in 2021. The June 2018 summit between North Korean President Kim Jong Un and President Trump was a historic moment because it marked the first time a sitting U.S. president crossed the demilitarized zone into North Korea. However, North Korea did continue to conduct short-range and medium-range ballistic missile tests during the Trump administration. Under the administration of President Biden, North Korea has increased its testing of ballistic missiles.
Abraham Accords
Trump brokered a “historic peace agreement” between the UAE and Israel during his administration. The Abraham Accord was a large step towards normalizing relations and establishing bilateral agreements between the two countries regarding “investment, tourism, direct flights, telecommunications, technology, health care, culture, the environment, the establishment of reciprocal embassies, security, energy, and other areas of mutual benefit.”
Washington has long debated relocating the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move demonstrating the formal recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the U.S. government in 2018. In addition, Israel and the United Arab Emirates signed the Abraham accords, a “historic peace agreement” that normalized relations and established bilateral agreements concerning investment, security, telecommunications, energy, tourism, direct flights, health care, culture, and the environment. Other areas of mutual benefit include the establishment of reciprocal embassies.
During the Trump administration’s tenure, the embassy was relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem – a move long debated in Washington that showed that the United States recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. A total of more than $2.2 trillion has been committed to the defense budget under the Trump administration, which includes pay increments for service members and their families. Also, President Trump created a new military branch, the Space Force.
The Supreme Court has been strengthened with the confirmation of three conservative justices appointed by the Trump administration – Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. Furthermore, the Trump administration has taken significant steps to make communities safer by signing the First Step Act into law, an effective criminal justice reform bill designed to reduce recidivism and make it easier for ex-offenders to reenter society successfully.
