Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, excluded the possibility of restoring or normalize relations with India. Khan added that such a move would be a betrayal to the Kashmiri people. During a live telephonic question and answer session with the public on Sunday, the prime minister declared that re-establishing ties with the Modi government would equivalent to ignoring all the struggle of Kashmiris and betrayed to over a hundred thousand martyred Kashmiris.

The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team said that he tried since his day one at the office that his administration of relations with India. He also tried to solve the Kashmir issue through dialogue and peace. But if Pakistan normalizes relations with India now at this stage, it will be a major betrayal to the people of Kashmir. Further, khan states that it is undoubtful that after normalizing relations, trade of both countries will improve but is equal to waste the blood of all Kashmiris. So, it can’t happen that Pakistan’s trade improves at the cost of their blood.

He said that the delayed dialogues might resume only if India reserves its scrapping of the long-lasting semi-autonomous status of Indian-occupied Kashmir. Modi-led Indian administration canceled Article 370 and other related requirements from its Constitution on 5th August 2019. Furthermore, it was divided into two federally directed territories. At the same time, it locked the Indian-occupied Kashmir, imposed movement restrictions, imprisoned thousands of Kashmiris, and enforced a communications blackout. In return, Pakistan suspended trade ties with India and downgraded diplomatic relations with its neighbor.

Thawing in Relations of Both Countries

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, said on Friday that the nuclear-armed countries should refrain from taking any actions that would change the status of the disputed area. However, Pakistan and India fought three major wars since their independence in 1947, with relations usually tense between them. Both Pakistan and India claim Kashmir in full but administer separate portions of it.

Earlier in 2021, reports emerged that top intelligence officials of both countries met in UAE in January in an effort to stem heightened tensions between them. Moreover, Yousef al-Otaiba, the UAE diplomat to Washington, confirmed that the Gulf state was playing the role of mediator between Pakistan and India to help them reach a functional and healthy relationship.

In February, armies of both nuclear rivals announced a rare and sudden reaffirmation of a 2003 truce agreement along the LoC, the de facto border dividing the Kashmir region. Last month Modi and Khan exchanged letters that called for friendly and peaceful relations between both countries.
