The Biden government plans to send advanced weapons, including long-range rocket systems, to Ukrainian officials to help hold back Russian gains in the Donbas region but refused to announce their delivery time publicly. The Ukrainian government has been requesting for the last some weeks with the United States to get American-made MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems), which are more navigable and powerful than other artillery systems, such as the howitzers.
Ukraine’s urgent plea for ‘heavy weapons’ has evidently been heard in D.C, where a senior US official told the media that the White House was leaning towards sending multiple rocket launchers to embattled Ukraine as a constituent of the coming security package for Kyiv forces. pic.twitter.com/viZpfi5NGf

On Friday, Ukraine officials eagerly requested the rocket system to combat the advance of Russian troops as they claimed complete control of the strategic eastern city of Lyman. CNN was the first to report United States preparations to send the system. The White House will make the final decision about the transfer. Russia warned that there would be harsh repercussions for any country that provided advanced weaponry to Ukraine.
Moscow declared “total war” against the West, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday. Furthermore, the Biden government is trying to help Ukraine defend itself without prompting Russian retaliation on United States forces or allies. Last week, State Department officials stated that some White House officials expressed their concerns that delivering the MKRS with a range of over one hundred and eighty miles could result in the Ukrainian military launching rockets into Russian territory.
Republicans Criticized White House for Delay Rocket System Delivery
On Friday, some GOP leaders, including Senator Lindsey O. Graham, slammed the White House for not delivering the rocket systems rapidly to Ukraine. He tweeted that the Biden government has been dragging its feet. However, John Kirby, the spokesperson of the White House, said that the Biden government was not slow-rolling the Ukrainian request. On Friday, Kirby told reporters that he would take issue with the idea that there is a holdup here.
