The number of people in the southeastern state visiting the emergency room for Coronavirus-like illness also set a record at around four thousand one hundred and seventy-one. The number of residents currently hospitalized with Coronavirus has approximately doubled since the start of the month. In a press release, incoming NCDHHS Secretary Kody H. Kinsley stated that they are concerned that a small part of these virus infections that ends up in the hospital could overwhelm the hospital system and intensify the loss of lives of those who are vulnerable to the virus.
States are Facing Staffing Shortages
Moreover, in neighboring South Carolina, the Department of Health & Environment Control reported a record-high number of new per day cases of around nine thousand on the year’s last day. Dr. Edward Simmer, the Director of the Department, told the press that January would be a difficult month for the state.
