Trump abruptly leaves ’60 Minutes’ without making a scheduled joint appearance with Pence

President Donald Trump on Tuesday, abruptly left what was a contentious interview “60 Minutes” on CBS News. He would return to make a scheduled appearance with VP Mike Pence, according to multiple sources linked with the matter.

In a solo, interview given to the network from WH, the Republican on Tuesday, sat down to answer host Lesley Stahl’s questions for about 45 minutes before abruptly deciding to quit the talk and told the CBS that they had enough content to air. While House has not denied the reports, CBS management has also kept them away from responding on the news concerning their network. The President later accused Stahl of not using a face covering and tweeted out a short clip of her with bare face while at WH.

Talking to CNN, a person familiar with the matter said the image used in the tweet shows host with her producer after conducting the interview. Stahl had yet to go back and collect her mask and personal belongings. The lady was donning a mask from the time she entered the White House and just before the interview with the president started.

With two weeks remaining in election, Trump has increased his attacks on the rivals and everyone projecting his campaign as doomed. The unconcluded tape recorded with 60 Minutes is just an extension of the Republican’s visible irritations and anxiousness as he steps in the nervy final days of general elections campaign.

Former VP and Trump’s democratic challenger Joe Biden and his running mate California Senator Kamala Harris have also made appearances on 60 Minutes. Trump, Pence, Biden and Harris are all due to appear in the same program slated on Sunday. While Biden and Harris recorded their interviews separately, the Republican and his deputy were scheduled to make a joint on-camera appearance for the 60 Minutes, for a walk and talk session they did 4 years back. But the president did not return, according to sources.

Trump trailing behind Biden in the opinion polls, clearly seems disturbed and has been resorted to lobby scatter-shot at the depictions in national polls he scorns. From launching accusations to insults, the Republican has gone rouge and adopted combative mode this week. The time is quickly running out and the work needed to win back voters in big.  On Monday, the president blasted, Dr. Anthony Fauci, calling him a disaster, bashed the news media and insulted them for being “criminals” for unable to bring the alleged scams and scandals linked with Biden to the debates.

Trump on Tuesday morning ordered his attorney general to speed up his work to initiate a probe into the charges leveled against the Democrat.

“We’ve gotta get the attorney general to act. He’s gotta act. And he’s gotta act fast,” Trump said in the interview. “This is major corruption and this has to be known about before the election.”

The president also took a shot at the Commission on Presidential Debates, organizing the Thursday’s debate for being partisan after the panel announced the muting of the mics as a new rule for the final debate. The Republican’s road to a re-election bid looks narrow after the polling in states he bagged in 2016 suggest the Democratic rival ahead. While the President remains optimistic, he has appeared furious over the media reports and predictions that his campaign is destined to defeat and has issued stark criticism on why the fellow Republicans are appearing to distance themselves from his campaign. Trump admitted his understandable frustrations on Monday in Arizona.

“I’m not running scared,” he addressed reports. “I think I’m running angry,” he acknowledged.

Stahl, in a 2018 interview tape, challenged Trump on his views on Russian meddling in 2016 polls and climate change. While it was not far from contentious, the president didn’t opt out of the program and completed the interview. Stahl previously stated that during an off-camera sitting with the Republican in 2016, the President confessed that his attacks hurled on Media were meant to neutralize the negative press propagated about him.

“He said, ‘You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so when you write negative stories about me, no one will believe you.’ He said that,” Stahl said.
