United States formally ends Trump’s Immigration Policy

According to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo sent to agency leaders, the Trump-Time “Remain in Mexico” policy has been officially ended Tuesday by the United States, that forced thousands of asylum seekers to stay in Mexico for hearings of their pending cases in the United States immigration court.

The Biden administration paused the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) soon after he assumed office on Jan. 20 this year. A DHS official told Reuters that over eleven thousand migrants enrolled in it had been permitted to cross the US border to pursue shelter claims. MPP returned nearly seventy thousand asylum seekers to Mexico from January 2019 till it was ended on President Biden’s first day in office.

Apprehensions in March and April reached Top Level

President Biden has reversed numerous of Trump’s restrictive immigration policies, saying that he failed to honor American asylum laws. GOPs have condemned Joe Biden’s moves, saying Biden urged a rise in migrant arrivals at the United States-Mexico border in past months.

United States Border Patrol worries at the Mexico-US border reached the highest monthly level in two decades in March and April this year. Moreover, apprehensions in May 2021 were alike, according to the data provided by Reuters.

In a Feb. 2 executive order, the US President called for American agencies to analyze the MPP protocol and consider its termination.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas wrote that in making his assessment, he shares the belief that they could only manage migration responsibly and effectively if they approach the issue comprehensively, looking well beyond their borders.
