On Monday, the United States announced the latest measures to combat drug smuggling and trading as Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the U.S., meets with state heads of Guatemala to discuss security and migration issues. A senior governmental official told reporters that they also hope to announce some further measures to combat corruption but that there are no announcements to reveal additional aid money at this stage.
Joe Biden, the President of the United States, tasked the vice president to direct the efforts to address the reasons behind a rise in immigrants traveling to the Mexico-American border. Governmental officials highlighted corruption as a significant factor in private companies and migration, avoiding increasing their investments in Central America.
One official said that it is a direct connection between corruption and individuals arriving on the southwest border of America for the administration. Besides talks with Alejandro Giammattei, the President of Guatemalan, Kamala Harris is also met with entrepreneurs and community leaders. The vice president considers the need to grow the economy of Guatemalan further because it will help address the climate crisis and the food insecurity in the country. It will also help to combat corruption, poverty, and violence.

The VP recently won commitments from American organizations and companies to invest in Central American nations to encourage job training and economic opportunities. Similarly, America said last week to send a combined aid package to contain 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Mexico and Guatemala. The first U.S. woman vice president’s diplomatic approach initiates political mockery from the Republican party because she yet to visit the Mexico-U.S. border.
At a press conference, some GOP leaders displayed a milk carton showing the vice president with the headline: ‘Missing at the Border.’ During the last some years, the American government sent billions of dollars in assistance to Central American nations in hopes of reducing the motivation for residents there to migrate north to the U.S. So far, the aid didn’t stop the wave of migration as people look to escape poverty and crime in search of an improved life in the United States.
Whereas vice president’s trip got off a tentative start when her aircraft left Washington forced to return after thirty minutes by what the officials described as a technical issue. Harris boarded another jet and left about ninety minutes later.
