Capitol Police Officer Killed after a Suspect hit a Vehicle into Police Barricade

One USCP officer killed, another injured after a a man hit his vehicle into a police barrier outside the Capitol building

One United States Capitol Police officer killed, another injured after a suspect hit a vehicle into a police barrier outside the Capitol building on Friday afternoon, Yogananda Pittman, the acting chief, told reporters during a news briefing almost two-hour hours after preliminary reports of the attack first surfaced.

Pittman later Friday identified the dead officer as William Billy Evans, an eighteen-year-old veteran of the police force. He was a member of its First Respond Unit. She said in a statement after telling the name of the officer to the reporters that with profound sadness, she shared the news of the killing of Officer William ‘Billy’ Evans after getting injuries following an attack at the North Barricade by a lone attacker.

During the news conference, Pittman said that officers shot the suspect in the attack, who waved a knife after hitting his vehicle into a police barricade on Constitution Avenue. Local and Federal law enforcement official sources told CNN that they identified the suspect as Noah Green. Whereas one federal source said that the suspect was twenty-five years old.

An investigation into the brutal attack is in progress, but the immediate threat appears to wane. The United States Capitol Police lifted an hours-long lockdown of the Capitol Friday afternoon after law enforcement agencies determined the clearance of the external security risk.

Swift Response from the Law Enforcement Agencies

National Guardsmen and Police collectively responded swiftly as the situation spread out Friday, instantly moving to secure the Capitol as preliminary reports of violence started to emerge. U.S. Capitol Police stated that Just after 01:00 pm, a guy in a blue sedan bumped his vehicle into the North Barricade at the Capitol, striking two USCP officers. After that, the man left the vehicle holding a knife in his hand and ran toward officers. At least one officer at the spot drew their police weapon and killed the suspect with a gunshot.

Less than two hours before the suspect was shot and killed, Green posted several Instagram stories on an account that seems to belong to him, including weblinks to other Instagram posts containing videos of Minister Louis Farrakhan speaking.  Last week, Green wrote in the caption of a video that the American government is the number one enemy of Black people. Likewise, in another post on Instagram, he wrote that he believed Farrakhan had saved him after the dreadful affiliations he suffered, likely by the FBI and CIA.
