Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, decided to address United Nations Security Council diplomats Tuesday amid the mounting evidence that Russian troops intentionally assassinated civilians in Bucha. Many were shot in streets, homes, and yards, and their dead bodies left in the open. The evacuation of the Russian forces from towns across Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, revealed the bodies, which led to calls for severe sanctions against Moscow.

Tougher sanctions mainly include the cutoff of gas and oil imports from Russia. Likewise, France and Germany reacted to the recent story by expelling dozens of Russian diplomats from their countries and accusing them of spy activities. Joe Biden, the United States president, said Russian President Vladimir Putin should be tried for war crimes. The U.S. president further called Putin a brutal guy and referred to the current happening as disgraceful.
Furthermore, Zelensky planned to virtually address the most powerful body of the United Nations after receiving briefings from Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the U.N., U.N. humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths, and Guterres’s political chief, who is trying to arrange a truce. On Monday, Griffiths met with Russian officials in Moscow and planned to visit Ukraine.
Dozens of Civilian Bodies Revealed in Bucha
Journalists of several media outlets found dozens of dead bodies in civilian clothes with no weapons, some with their hands tied behind, and many of them shot at close range with burned bodies. In a video address, Zelensky vowed that Ukraine would work with the E.U. and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to recognize Russian troops involved in any killings.
Russia Officially Dismissed Allegations
Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia, sacked the scenes outside the Ukrainian capital and referred to them as a stage-managed anti-Russian provocation. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of Moscow, said that the pictures contained signs of several fakes and video forgery. Moscow rejected previous accusations of killings as a fabrication by the Ukrainian government.

Ukrainian officials said that they found bodies of around four hundred and ten civilians in town across the capital. Moreover, the office of the Ukrainian prosecutor-general described one torture room discovered in Bucha. On Monday, Russian United Nations ambassador Vassily Nebenzia insisted at a press conference that during the time that Bucha was under Russian force control, not a single civilian suffered from any violent action.
Ukrainian and Western leaders blamed Moscow for war crimes before. The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has already opened a probe against the war crimes of Russian forces. However, the recent reports intensified the denunciation. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, also said that there is clear evidence of war crimes from Russians in Bucha that demand new severe sanctions against Russia.
According to a senior United States defense official, around two-thirds of the Russian military across the Ukrainian capital left are either in Belarus or on their way there, possibly receiving reinforces and supplies. On Monday, over fifteen hundred civilians were able to escape Mariupol, suing the declining number of private vehicles available to leave.
