Murdoch and his friend Marvin Davis in May 1985 spoke about their idea to introduce a fourth marketing force to compete with ABC, CBS and NBC by setting up a network of independent stations and it would be done by acquiring six stations of Metromedia. One month later in July 1985, it was announced by 20th Century Fox that the Australian publisher has acquired the 50% stake in Fox Entertainment Group which parented 20th Century Fox Film Corporation.

The purchase profited Murdoch as the company in the following year would earn $5.6m (in its fiscal third period that ended in May 31, 1986). That was in contrast with the $55.8m loss incurred in the last year’s third period. Before the formal launch of Fox News, Murdoch had gained experience through Sky News (launched by BSkyB in UK in 1989) and was also enjoying the improvement shown by 20th Century Fox, so he on Jan 31, 1996 announced the launch of FNC as a new cable and satellite station of News Corporation in USA. Murdoch in Feb 2016 hired former Republican Political strategist, Roger Allies as the CEO of the fourth network which finally went on air on Oct 7, 1996 after weeks of test transmissions and rehearsals. On its launch as much as 17m homes in US were able to receive Fox but it was unavailable in NYC and Los Angeles.

During Sep 11, 2001 attacks Fox was the first news channel to introduce a news ticker on the bottom to maintain the flow of information and breaking news, that was a well-received initiative and others were quick to copy it.

Today, FNC hosts a variety of programs with as much as 25 hours of live broadcasts each week day excluding the content produced for Fox Broadcasting Company. Most of the programming is produced at Fox News Headquarters in New York City form the studios located on Sixth Avenue in the west wing of Rockefeller Center which is also a home to its sibling Fox Business Network.  There are eight studios located in the New York Headquarters of the channel and are used by FNC and FBN. Benghazi Incident

The coverage of Benghazi attack in 2012 also showed the biased approach of Fox News towards Obama and Republicans as as the channel demanded investigations. Benghazi accounted for 1,098 segments of Fox that year. The Bret Baier hosted program on June 29, 2018 forcefully repeated the allegations against Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice who were cleared off the charges after official investigations.

Uranium One Coverage

The Uranium One was especially covered by Fox extensively claiming that the deal was done to serve the Russian interests. Sean Hannity described the event as one of the biggest scandals in the history of US. The issue was raised from 2015 to 2018 to target Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump remained main man to repeat the accusations saying that the sale was made following the exchange of bribes of $145 million being paid to Mrs. Clinton’s Clinton Foundation.

Trump/Republican Partisanship

FNC has always been accused of being biased in favor of Trump and other Republicans. As a mouthpiece of the conservative voices in the country, Fox has done a lot to promote the Republican agenda and pave way for Trumps way to White House. In the presidency of Mr. Trump, Fox has remained eternally wilful to ignore the scandals about Jared Kushner’s security clearance, Trump and Stormy Daniels agreement and most importantly the Meddling of Russians in 2016 US Elections.
